Not sure how he managed the drawings on his back...

He even had green up his nose...The green came off his face really easily, but there are still faint marks on his belly and sides from the dry erase markers. It looks like he has all these weird horizontal veins now...

I didn't think he would color himself again since it has been so long since the last time. The markers are now out of reach...Needless to say, said child got no nap today. Sad.

Busy time of year...

So, the holidays are very busy for most but our little family gets lots of extra things to celebrate this time of year. After Thanksgiving, we get to celebrate our Anniversary. 2011 marked five years of marriage! It has been a great five years and I am so grateful for my decision to marry Jean!

Spencer and I also have our birthdays. Jean spoils me too much and since I took the weekend before my birthday off, we got to celebrate for several days! (Which is only fair as Spencer got to celebrate on his birthday and then another day with a party for some friends. haha) Jean took me out to an awesome dinner at Tucanos and then we stayed at the Zermatt. I have to say turning 30 was a lot of fun!

Spencer enjoyed turning 3 too and kept thinking that I was stealing his birthday when it came time to celebrate mine. He still loves his balloons and it only took him two days to master holding up three fingers instead of two. =)

Here are the friends that came to celebrate Spencer's birthday and I swear they had fun, even though their faces don't show it. I have decided the delay on my camera is not appropriate for capturing three year old boys smiling. Oh well.

These boys missed the party but came over another day to shower Spencer with gifts of nerf guns. Spencer is so spoiled!!! Spencer got some pretty awesome birthday/Christmas toys. He loves his Buzz and we have videos that show his excitement over his other toys, but they take too long to download.

Uncle Spencer gave us a gingerbread kit that this picture is evident little Spencer enjoyed doing immensely!!

Wish I had more pictures to show our holiday fun, but this is it. Hope you guys had as much fun as we did this time of year!!! Happy New Year!

Happy Thanksgiving, Vegas style!

We drove down to Vegas to celebrate Thanksgiving with my parents and brother, Spencer, last week. We had a great time, especially Spencer (my little guy) who had so many people to play with. He was in heaven!

So we didn't see Blue Man Group, but did go to Mystere by Cirque du Soleil. It was so entertaining and amazing to me what people can do with their bodies!!
Didn't know there was a toy story 3, but Spencer was loving this poster!!
Such a better experience with Santa this year than it was two years ago... (http://jeanandmichelle.blogspot.com/2010_01_01_archive.html). We just happened upon this Santa at one of the outdoor malls in Vegas. When Santa asked Spencer what he wanted for Christmas, Spencer replied, "A Christmas tree!" Santa acted like he had never gotten that response before, imagine that!! =) Town Square (that outdoor mall south of the strip) has an awesome little playground in the middle for little kiddos. Spencer sure loved it. They even have little bathrooms that have a regular size toilet and a toddler toilet in the same stall. Once Spencer saw the toilet just his size, he stopped arguing that he didn't have to go potty!!
The first time I went through this maze with Spencer I could see other kids approaching but Spencer obviously couldn't see over the hedges, so everytime he turned a corner and a kid was there Spencer would get so startled. It was pretty funny for me to watch. But he quickly gained confidence and not sure where he learned this from (cough, cough) started trying to scare everyone else....maybe I should tone down the scaring wars he and I have at home!!
First time on a merry-go-round...he was happy for about six turns, then totally done with it!

Can you guess which casino we are in?? If you know me at all, you know it is the Bellagio!!! =) This picture captures his fascination with flashlights...much to his dismay, we had to eventually confiscate it as he was blinding everyone outside by the fountains...,.

He wanted to hang out with Woody all night, but don't worry, I didn't let him.

My brother, Spencer, pretended to start to climb the wall to jump into the Bellagio fountains, but little Spencer grabbed onto my brother's leg and wouldn't let him. Little Spencer then gave big Spencer a little lecture with finger pointing and all about not jumping in the water. It was hilarious to watch, especially since little Spencer was so convinced that he was really saving my brother. This video is from my brother trying it a second time and little Spencer saving the day again but with no lecture this time unfortunately.

And lastly, Spencer kept walking in funny ways whenever we were out and about, so this is one video to show that.

One other funny moment and learning experience I want to remember is regarding Spencer's obsession with money right now. My brother kept giving Spencer little coins to play with and he would keep them safely tucked in his fist (even throughout a whole night of sleeping) and pockets. He kept talking about his money and needing more. While on the strip we passed a lady that was begging for money. Spencer immediately said hi to her and waved, but then saw her cup of money and yelled excitedly, "You have money too!!!" Jean and I just pulled him along, chuckling to ourselves. Gratefully she was not offended and mentioned how cute he was. Funny moment, but also a great reminder to us how innocent Spencer is. Everyone, regardless of cleanliness and state in life, is worthy of being his friend. He is consistently calling everyone, stranger or not, his friends. I need to be better about not being so judgemental...

I had a great Thanksgiving and am grateful for my family!! Hope yours was wonderful too!

Today's musings

Thrilled that I get to spend this entire weekend in the waking presence of Jean. Yup, not working. It is going to be wonderful to be awake when Jean is awake and asleep when he is asleep and actually get to spend time together and have conversations. I can hardly wait!!!

Spencer is such a sweet boy. Last night I shut my finger in the car door. Embarrassingly enough, I burst into tears as it hurt so much and suddenly. Spencer (and Jean, too) was quite concerned about my welfare and had such a worried look on his face. At one point during my tears, I cracked a joke which caused Jean and I to both laugh. You would have thought it was Christmas morning. Spencer started jumping up and down, with a huge smile while exclaiming, "You are all better!!! I am so happy!!" He then ran over to hug me as he was so relieved. Well, not quite all better, but it sure helped that he was so excited that he thought I was better.

It is amazing how many things I use my right forefinger for. Some tasks have proven either impossible or at least quite slow with my swollen, bruised finger that I cannot straighten. Typing is not that fun....

And one more thought, I love my Christmas present. I have been disappointed in my pillow lately and the quality of sleep I have felt I have missed out on due to it. We stayed at a hotel in California that had these AWESOME down pillows that I have been dreaming about and added to my Christmas wish list....well, that is my list, can't think of anything else actually. Anyway, costco to the rescue. The other day I saw they were selling down pillows for less than I was preparing to pay for them, so Christmas came early for me and I am in sleeping heaven. I love my new pillow. And when I saw love, I mean love.

We picked the coldest night to go to Cornbelly's, so needless to say we didn't stay very long as we were under prepared. Missed out on the corn maze, but got some cute pictures.

Unfortunately, right when we got there, Spencer saw a scarecrow on stilts that pretty much freaked him out, so it took some warming up to enjoying the evening. In this picture he could still see the scarecrow not too far off and was not happy about being placed on this saddle when he wanted to be protected in Daddy's arms!

Next year we will have to plan better, but at least had some fun!! haha

Pumpkin party!

I thought Spencer would have a great time carving pumpkins, but as soon as he saw the pumpkin guts he was outta there!

We had to then spend the next little bit trying to convince him that the pumpkins were not scary and that he should rejoin our pumpkin party. As soon as he saw the smile on the pumpkin though he was sold and came back to party!

However, he still gets a little nervous on the porch with the pumpkins. Silly!!

While in AZ this last summer, Jean was squirting Spencer with the water gun in the hot summer sun. Jean was assuming this pose to hide the gun from Spencer so he would not be able to figure out where it was coming from. Eventually Spencer caught on though. Well a couple of months later, one day at home Spencer started doing the same trick on me. Tricky boys!!!

From jelly bean to baby!

So two weeks ago I had my first doctor's appointment for this pregnancy and they did the ultrasound to determine how big the baby is and what the due date is. They had a little difficulty getting a good measurement so my doctor had me come back today to do another one. Two weeks ago, the picture showed a jelly bean blob, pictured below that was not much to look at. It was fun to see/hear the heartbeat though in the ultrasound.

Today, we have a baby!!!! =) Said baby was kicking, arching their little back, moving arms around and even kind of looked like he/she was smiling.

LOVE it!!! This next year tax day is even more significant to us, as the baby is due April 15!

State Fair and MTC

Today my Mom and I (and Spencer) took Cherilyn to the MTC to begin her mission to Pittsburgh, PA. We are sad to see her go and will miss her, but are also very proud of her.

They don't let you dawdle at the MTC so we had to take pictures before.

And last night we all went to the State Fair (Jean, too) and had a great time!!!

Those are real sea lions and wow, did they smell like fish (nothing gets past my pregnant sense of smell. And yes, that is an announcement! =) I am due in April. YAY!) But they were so well trained and sweet.

Spencer loved this giant slide and would have gone down all night. (he and I are the ones just past the middle of the slide)

This picture was right after this sheep sneezed on Cherilyn and Spencer...they got sheep snot on their faces. EWW, but also pretty funny!

Spencer loved poking the bunnies (well, all the animals for that matter).

And best of all, he got to ride Rusty the pony and had a great time!!

He loved it and was sad to get off!

I wish we had gotten video or a picture of it, but right after Spencer got on the horse, he started patting the back of it to get it to go faster! It was so funny!! (and we thought of you guys, Leticia and Martin!) Anyway, so long for now!

odds and ends

We have had some fun the past few weeks. Spencer and I went with my good friend from HS and her sons to the Thanksgiving Point dinosaur museum. The boys loved it, but we forgot our cameras which left me to taking pictures with my phone. My phone is not good at capturing two active two year olds, so sadly, these are the best I got.

We also went up the canyon with some other friends and had a great time eating and sailing paper boats down the river.

We have also had some stress. Two words, potty training. Spencer is doing pretty good actually but it was touch and go for me for a couple of days. I didn't think I would keep my sanity. We also got a trip to the ER for Spencer (pics to come). Lucky for us, a perk of working in the ER is getting some free ER care. LOVE IT!! And no worries, Spencer's forehead was glued shut and he is doing great now! (if you enlarge this last picture, you can see the cut above his right eyebrow)

Vacation!

Okay, a couple of things. This post is long. We did a lot. And I still want to post some videos that crack me up... And because blogger messes me up, this post is in reverse order. I am making peace with that, but not entirely yet. Oh well.

This is the last day after Sea World. Spencer is tuckered out. Spencer never sleeps in our arms unless sick and I guess SUPER exhausted. Cute.

We sat in the soak zone at the Shamu show and were super close. I was nervous to get soaked, but we barely got any drops. phew!

Spencer loved watching the seals and sea lions beg for food up close and personal.

The dolphin show was a lot of fun and we were safely out of the soak zone.

Spencer loved the penguins!! The indoor exhibit was pretty fun as the little guys were hyper and swam super fast and were so quick to jump in and out of the water.

So I realize this is not the best pic, but I think it is funny and cool how close they were swimming.

We spent a day at a few beaches and the coast. Spencer loved the sand and relaxing. He has perfect skin and got a great tan, while I burned on the other hand...ouch.

You should see the other attempts at taking this picture. Let's just say I am happy with his eyes closed.

So while getting gas at a Costco, we asked some employee for some good Mexican food and his recommendations did not disappoint. El Indio was yummy, and the other Luche Libre has been featured on Man vs. Food and was also really, really good. Jean has always wanted to go to a restaurant that has been on TV. Check.

USS Midway was a big hit for the boys. Spencer (and Jean) had a great time climbing in and out of planes, jets, and helicopters.

Spencer also loved pushing all the buttons around the ship!

As it was ridiculously hot, (duh, Arizona in August, what were we thinking??) Spencer had to play in water. He also would not put down his water gun that Uncle Spencer was so kind to give him!

We also stayed in Vegas and visited Spencer for a bit. But I only took videos, so they will come later. We had a great trip and it was fun to see some family as well!!

I just wanted to get some thoughts down that have been close to my heart lately. I have touched on this before, but working as a social worker in the emergency department at a large hospital I definitely see a large portion of our community that is not well emotionally, mentally, spiritually and physically. The sadness and trauma that I have seen have made me so grateful for the things I have and the things I don't have to worry about. I have felt that I have done a decent job (that should be my indicator that I need to be doing more) of being grateful to our Heavenly Father for the blessings I have been given that I definitely do not deserve.

I am grateful for a wonderful husband that wouldn't even think of abusing me or Spencer, or anyone for that matter, in any way. I am grateful that I have not had a loved one die or be injured in a traumatic way. I am grateful that I don't have to try to decipher what external or internal stimuli is reality and what is a byproduct of my mental illness. I am grateful that I am not sunk down in the depths of despair and sadness. I am grateful that I don't have to battle thoughts of suicide or harbor intense feelings of anger towards others. I am grateful that I don't have to go to homeless shelters or try to brave the weather on the streets. I am grateful for my support system and how kind and generous others are towards me. This just scratches the surface of what I am grateful for, but you get the general idea.

And then the other day I was humbled again by watching the 5:00 news with Spencer. They showed scenes in Africa right now of people who all I can think really know what it is to suffer in every way. They showed starved people in long lines to get food and a spot to sleep in a makeshift tent. People without that basic tier of human needs of shelter, food and safety. Then they showed a baby/toddler lying on the dirt ground, staring into space, obviously malnourished just covered in flies. Spencer immediately looked up to me with eyes full of tears and said, "Mamae, that baby has bugs all over him." Needless to say, seeing that child that way was heartbreaking enough but then to have my sweet little boy recognize and bluntly state the inhumanity in the world really has made me think a great deal.

What do I do with what I have been blessed with? I am sad to admit that it is very little. I know I need to be a better steward of my blessings and the resources the Lord has provided me, with the trust that I would be a good and wise servant and use them for good. I wonder how sad it must be for the Lord to watch his children, especially the little kiddos, suffer in this world. It also must be so hard for him to watch those who have received so much more squandor it away with little good to show for it. I want to be a better servant. I want to give more of what I have to those who are so much less fortunate than me. I want to show more compassion and love to not only those in remote places but to those in my community. And hopefully by this expression, I will be held to a greater accountability to actually follow through on these things. Unfortunately, I need those reminders to jolt me out of my comfort zone and look outside of myself. Let's all be a little better and more giving and compassionate to those that are just as loved by the Lord as we are.

Lately...

Spencer's first movie at the theaters since he was an infant. We took him to see cars and he LOVED it! We had tried to take him to another movie a few weeks ago, but we were late and the previews were blaring and it was dark and he REFUSED to even go in. This was a much better experience!!

He loves this hat but only gets to really wear it in the house and car. This is his pained expression of me taking another photo...

Lehi Rodeo

So last night we went to the rodeo. I was sure that Spencer would love the horses and cows/bulls, which he did. But his favorite part was the motorcross show in the middle. He LOVED watching the two guys jump high in the air, do flips and ride around the arena. He even got so excited he was throwing his arms into the air! Pretty cute.

I got seats right next to the roping which was also fun for Spencer (he was pretty much eye to eye with the horses), until I realized that he was distracting the team roping horses by waving his flag at them...oops. Hopefully it didn't hurt any scores....

Jean, we think you are the greatest and we love you!! Seriously, I have always known how blessed I am to have Jean in my life, but with my new job I am more aware of and grateful for what a blessing he really is. Since I have been working with people with such acute sadness, or who are in these crazy and awful situations that I would never wish upon anyone, I really am daily grateful for what I have and for what I don't have. I really don't deserve to be so richly blessed and saying that my cup runneth over hardly does justice. Jean, hopefully I can be as good for you as you are for me, happy birthday and father's day and know that I love you always.

Or maybe stealing, but either way, bad behavior for a two year old. Apparantly, Spencer was shoving any and as many matchbox cars into his cargo pants pockets as he could at nursery today and put up a huge fight if anyone tried to take them out. So when Jean went to pick him up his pockets were loaded and Jean had a heck of a time getting the cars out to be left in nursery. I know we don't pay people for the service they provide in the LDS church, but I do feel nursery leaders should get paid. =) Hopefully Spencer wasn't too much of a pill today, we are really grateful for the nursery leaders!!!

Jean graduated from UVU this weekend and we are so proud of him! He is such a hard worker and I feel bad that his schooling had to be so prolonged because of meeting and marrying me, but am so grateful that he has been patient and has worked so hard to finish and do well! Here are some pics of the day in no particular order. We were so glad that Leticia was able to come and she was great company during graduation. I would have gone nutty had she not been there!!!

We have been fortunate enough to have my mom stay with us for a bit. We have enjoyed her so much and will be sad when it is time for her to go, though I am sure she is counting down her days to return to peace and serenity. =)

We took my Mom to Texas Roadhouse for a birthday lunch. She braved the birthday saddle and was kind enough to let Spencer join her. I was too close and couldn't get a good picture that included the saddle. And sorry the pics are a bit blurry!

We are so glad that we got to celebrate her birthday with her! Spencer sure loves Grandma and is always so excited to play with her! We love you, Grandma!!

Why am I posting at 3AM, you ask? Well because I am at my new job and it is slow. Same employer, IHC, but different location in the hospital. Instead of working in the heart and lung bldg Monday-Friday 8-5, I now work in the ER doing traumas (car accidents, falls, gun shot wounds, etc) and crisis (overdoses, suicide attempts, psych issues, etc). And my schedule is now pretty much every Friday, Saturday and Sunday 7pm-7am.

Pros

--My Mom and I took Spencer and my nephews to the park this morning for like two hours and we had a blast

--I can fit exercise into my schedule better (not that my butt is getting any smaller...)

--I am kind of like a stay-at-home mom now with the perks of still having my income

--12 hour shifts are amazing. Seriously. I was nervous about them, but it is quite nice to only come 3 days a week. Plus the ER is like a time warp and the time goes quickly even when I am not doing anything.

--I can cook decent meals for the hubby (which he is liking!)

Cons

--I don't get to spend Friday and Saturday nights with Jean/Spencer

--It is the middle of the night and my teeth are feeling fuzzy and I don't have access to my toothbrush. And PS, IHC buys worthless toothbrushes for patients, so that doesn't even help.

Anyway. So that is my life recently. I thoroughly enjoyed this first week home with Spencer and look forward to many more!

I then checked out the date and realized that it has been awhile since I posted and now my kid is quite shaggy and desperately needs a haircut...Haircuts are such drama though that I have been avoiding it and now Jean thinks that Spencer has a Beber hairstyle, which I promise is not on purpose. Any tips for making haircuts less dramatic?? And I will post again soon...

So today is our anniversary. Four great years!! Jean is so perfect for me, that sometimes it feels that he was never not in my life. I am a lucky lucky girl! When we were engaged we used to joke with each other that the other was the lucky one, but I have been proved wrong (not the first or last time) and it is not him that is the lucky one, it is me. No doubt. I will list only a few of the things that I love about him. Jean is so patient with me, but will still call me on my crap (which I don't always enjoy, but need). I love the little things that he does for me. The random text message he sends telling me he loves me a lot, and then denying that he sent it! =) How he will tickle my back. How he kisses me even though he knows that 9 times out of 10 my lips will shock his (Guess we still have our spark!! haha). I love how he loves Spencer so much that he can't leave the poor kid alone. I love how he is such a hard worker. I love that he loves learning and is interested in the most random things. I love how generous he is. I love how kind he is. I love how he can fix anything. I love that last night he tore apart one of Spencer's favorite little toys to fix it and now Spencer is one happy camper. I love that he makes me laugh. I love that he is grateful for me. I love to hear him speak Portuguese. I love how loyal he is. I love to hear him laugh and see his smile. I love the wrinkles around his eyes when he laughs. I love how he cuddled with me in my hospital bed and never left my side. Anyway, I could go on and on but I will cool it. Jean, I love, love, love you and always will. Happy Anniversary!

This year our neighborhood did trunk or treating at our park, in the rain (though I must have snapped these pics in the few minutes it wasn't raining)!! We didn't last very long, but Spencer enjoyed himself.

After Spencer got a handful of suckers, he was more interested in taking off to the slides instead of getting more loot, he didn't quite catch on to the concept.

So we are working really hard to teach Spencer to not be so forceful with other kids, i.e. pushing, hitting, knocking over, tackling, etc. (though we should probably work on not laughing when he says that he did....I promise, we usually don't do that. It just caught us off guard in this video when we had just had a heart to heart with him!)

I ask him this question daily after picking him up from daycare. Don't worry I also ask the teachers and get the accurate stories. Gratefully, he is getting much better at not doing these things.

Okay, so I like this one of Spencer sleeping because you can kind of see how he sleeps with one eye a little open (like his daddy). Cute, but mostly weird. And it is beyond me how he is comfortable lying all funky on wadded up blankets...

We have a lot of studying going on around here and Spencer doesn't want to miss an opportunity to be with Daddy.

Until Jean gets distracted and smothers the little guy with love. Spencer is not so much a fan of that...I think he knew what was coming in the previous picture. Keep an eye out for Daddy!!!

So yesterday while driving home I asked Spencer, "Do you love mommy?" and he enthusiastically responded with, "YEAH! and daddy!" I didn't know he knew how to use the word "and" yet.

On Sunday we had our Primary Program (the little kiddos in our congregation present a program of talks and music). Well Spencer watched attentively as all the kiddos got up front and started singing and presenting talks. He grabbed my hand to walk up and said, "MY turn!!!"

These were huge elk, both 6 point! We got a great view as they were just across the river from us.

At one point, I could have reached out my car window and touched this bison...They were huge and Jean was afraid it was going to ram the car!

This is looking down over a waterfall, it was pretty impressive to see the water gushing down.

Boy, was it stinky here!!!

YEA!! My licensing exam was my last hurdle to get my LCSW (highest social work license)...and I PASSED!!! I have been so nervous about it and finally took it today. I didn't tell anyone except for Jean that I was taking it b/c I didn't want anyone to know if I failed, but gratefully I didn't! I have finished all my clinical hours so now I just have to submit my paperwork and of course, pay fees and this long process will be OVER! I feel so relieved!!!

Warning: Bathroom conversation ahead...Okay, so Spencer is very aware of when he goes #2 in his diaper and is prompt to let us know that he needs a diaper change. Well, I thought this might be a good opportunity to capitalize on his awareness/discomfort, so I bought a little potty this last weekend. I rushed home from Walmart and was quick to introduce him to his new best friend. Little did I know how much he would actually love it. I think those first two hours (one of which he slept) I sat him on the potty a good seven times. Yes, lots of work to take off/put on a diaper, but if it gets him trained, I can do it. He loves to ask to "potty" and I encourage but we haven't had anything to celebrate...until today. (I am pleased our first real celebration was only about four days later.)

So cute, we are all hanging out on our bed tonight smothering Spencer with tickles and loves when he asks for "potty" and wants to take his book. (I really don't know where he got that idea...) So we oblige and book comes along. He sits there for a bit longer than usual entertained by his book and when we get him off finally, discover he has actually gone #2!!! So of course the celebrations overwhelm and we point and clap and high five and teach how to flush. Hopefully this is a milestone that will stick (though I am being cautiously hopeful)...I am prepared for a long haul training, but nonetheless, excitement today!!!

So for months now, Jean and I have laughed at how cute Spencer is when he asks for "more". He even has done this cute little thing with his hands while asking "more" that we figured was random and unique to him. Then "please" enters his vocabulary, and again, so cute with another random gesture. Well...come to find out months and months later that his daycare has been teaching him sign language. So these cute and "random" gestures actually have meaning and I can be quite oblivious!

Las Vegas

Jean and I took his family to Las Vegas and were grateful to stay in Hotel Davidson (thanks to Spencer (brother), Mom and Dad for your generosity)!! We had a great time exploring some parts of Vegas and little Spencer was exhausted from having so much fun!

We forgot a stroller, so lucky us got to carry Spencer the whole time. He kept trying to escape so he could run around, but didn't get to very much.

Nobody loves Spencer like his Grandpa's! They are so patient and let Spencer explore everything and will do anything Spencer wants. He sure warmed up to Sergio quickly!

Spencer really likes aquariums and even flirts with mermaids (too bad we didn't get that one documented with pictures)!

It was hard to say goodbye to Jean's family. It makes it hard when you don't know how soon we will get to see each other again. Jean and I are lucky to both have such great families that love Spencer so much!!!!

Hogle Zoo and Salt Lake City

We all went to Hogle Zoo and enjoyed perfect Spring weather (along with everybody else in Utah during Spring Break)!!! Spencer enjoyed some animals and was weary of others, especially the fake ones. My Mom took a whirlwind trip to Utah and was able to come with us. Ben and Amy and the crew came along too, but I didn't get any pics with them...

We also went to This is the Place Monument, Rodizio's and Jean's parents went to temple square with Leticia and Martin.

Easter Weekend

So Jean's family was able to come up to Utah to visit during Easter and Conference. They got to go to Conference and really enjoyed it.

We did an Easter egg "hunt" for Spencer and he caught on really quickly and loved opening all the eggs to find jelly beans and other goodies.

So the poor little guy was having a rough day yesterday. Got his first nosebleed. (Well, really his second. First one was when he discovered his fingers fit in his nose while at Walmart months ago, which many people stared at me and I am sure were thinking I was a stellar mom...) This bleed was due to falling outside. Sad.

Okay, Spencer spinning is one of my favorite things. I think it is HILARIOUS, as you can probably tell from my stifled laughs.

and with that comes independence! Spencer can be stubborn at getting his way. When I try to get him from his high chair, he now has to stand up first on his own and then I can lift him out. Or for a more recent turn of events, he wants out of his highchair to sit on the bar stool like us. When he is on our bed, he loves to slide off the side instead of us lifting him.

A few weeks ago, he started saying "more" whenever he wants anything. I guess he picked it up from us feeding him and asking if he wanted more. So now, "more" means "I am telling you what I want, so get it for me!" I thought it wouldn't last long but he is still doing it. (I would upload a video if I had the patience to wait for it to load...) It got easier when he started pointing, but now he gets frustrated when I acknowledge what he wants but don't give it to him.

One other story. He is still saying uh-oh whenever something falls or goes wrong. So yesterday, joy of joys, I got pulled over while doing a good deed, rude. Spencer definitely sensed I was upset and RIGHT as the cop was handing me a ticket, Spener said, "uh-oh". I don't think the cop heard, or maybe he would have let me off for some good comic relief...probably not, just wishful thinking! At the moment, not so funny, but I am laughing now! He really does make our life more fun and interesting!

Jean and I definitely do not go around the house sliding onto our knees...it pains us to even watch him do it! But we love this new dance move of his because it is just so much fun to watch him do it!! (You can kind of hear him saying uh-oh, which is another favorite of his, especially when he throws food off his high chair. Always remember to check your mirrors before backing the car up
If you must adjust the radio, make sure to keep your eyes on the road while doing so

And never, not under any circumstance, hang your head and arms out the window like a dog while you are driving. It is just not safe!

Disclaimer: Spencer is not really driving. The car is parked in the garage with no keys in the ignition. We are not like that Canadian family who put video of their young kids driving on YouTube, only to get pressed with charges. Repeat, our son is not really driving.

Homemade walker

He loves to be standing or walking--this can usually instantly cheer him up!

He has discovered that if he wants something, he can let us know by grunting, as demonstrated below.

I was multi-tasking the other day by drinking a smoothie (dinner) and shopping at Walmart with Spencer at the same time. Spencer loves smoothies (I discovered he can now drink out of a straw) and he was grunting so loud for me to share with him. It was making me laugh so hard that I nearly snorted smoothie out my nose all over the place (probably him--that would have shown him!) haha He can get pretty into it; this video is him being very mild when it comes to the grunting.

Note to Grandpa: Spencer wants me to tell you HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!

So this is what Spencer looks like the day after taking a nose dive off the bed. We can't figure out if he hit the nightstand or if that is rug burn...his first real fall (well, first fall that he got hurt in, he thought his other falls were funny...)

So I began my training today at Park City Medical Center. (I am going to be the social worker there and for homecare still as well.) Anyway, for those of you who don't know, Park City, Utah has a....unique culture. A rich culture. PCMC is a beautiful facility and let me tell you about some of the things that makes it a unique hospital, perfect for Park City.

Patients are no longer called "patients"; they are now "guests"; "guest services", "guest surgery", etc.
There is a separate entrance and elevator for high profile people (we go above and beyond when it comes to HIPAA).
The "chef" was Bill Gates' personal chef for years and more recently was head chef at a resort in Park City until he was recruited by PCMC.
Guests no longer have the typical cafeteria food brought to their rooms at set times of the day with no/little flexibility; guests will order room service from a menu anytime of the day.
PCMC has three fireplaces and honestly, looks like a fancy hotel. The walls are stonework from Brown's Canyon near Park City
There is a meditation room, stocked with literature from all major religions.

Should I go on, or do you get the picture? It is going to be interesting to work there, but more importantly, a great opportunity!

So yesterday Spencer got a fever that persisted to today. Translation=another ear infection. Poor little guy!! When he is sick, he tends to drool more, hence the big wet spot on the onsie.

Motrin does wonderful things and makes sick boys feel more like playing...or trying to figure out how to escape the crib. He now pulls himself up to standing so I need to move the bars up.
This is what he looks like when he loses his balance. But no worries, he quickly recovered and there were no falls.

Here are a few things that we have been up to lately...Spencer became nerdified--the youngest boy to get glasses! Poor thing! We can't keep them on him and these are temporary until they can make him a pair of smaller baby ones.

JUST KIDDING! They are just Jean's glasses. Off to the canyon...Apparantly Spencer was peeved that some kids were playing in the river and we didn't let him.

We also went up another day with some of my family, but I unfortunately didn't get any pics of them!

Spencer rode the carousel and liked it for awhile, but then I think he started getting dizzy and wanted off, but he hadn't reached that point yet in this picture.

We enjoyed the Fiesta Days car show, especially my Dad showing us all the cars that looked like the cars he used to drive. Jean didn't realize my Dad was so old! =)

Spencer was a bit tired after all the excitement and heat!

Oh yeah, Spencer is getting pretty good at scooting around the house, but the catch is he only knows how to go backwards at this point. He backed up into our "home office" and got pretty frustrated that he isolated himself. I need to get video of him on all fours rocking back and forth--SO CUTE!!!

So, after this long post, it is nap time!!

We had a great time in Vegas! We got to go see Phantom of the Opera. We had great seats and now can't get the songs out of our heads.

Six months already!!!

Spencer got a high chair for his six month celebration! (Well, it just happened to come in the mail today...) But he likes it, and feeding him is much easier. The chair turns feedings from a two person job down to a one person job (allowing us to capture his facial expressions on video!).

As I was hoping to show you with video (the video is ridiculously big and was taking too long to upload and I don't know how to make it smaller), he is not quite used to applesauce yet (he pulls some pretty funny faces), but he has warmed up to peaches and he loves green beans (just like his mommy--except for I don't care for mine puree'd.) We love our little guy and have loved these past six months with him!!!!

Awhile ago, Spencer did a magic rollover but I couldn't get him to do it again. Well this past week, he has been doing it again and has gotten pretty good. As soon as you put him on his back, he goes to his belly. But he is not as good going from belly to back, though we know he can because he has a few times. Anyway, today I finally was able to capture it on camera!
